Indonesia's Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded Indonesia's imports value at US$22.15 billion in August 2022. This was a 3.77 percent increase from the previous months. BPS deputy for distribution and service statistics Setianto said that on a year-on-year basis, the import value was higher by 32.81 percent. "It rose 32.81 percent compared to August 2021," he said in a press conference on Wednesday, September 15.
Throughout the month of August, Indonesia's imports were still dominated by non-oil and gas with a 9.23-percent increase in value to US$18.45 billion, Setianto said. Year on year, the value was higher by 26.11 percent. The three largest suppliers of imported non-oil and gas goods from January to August 2022 were China with US$44.59 billion (33.7%), Japan with US$11.35 billion (8.6%); and Thailand with US$ 7.68 billion (5.44%). The imports of machinery/mechanical equipment and parts were the biggest contributor to non-oil and gas import growth last month, climbing 16.99 percent to US$357.2 million.
