Egypt’s exports to the US surged by 27.5% to $2.19 billion in 2019 from $1.72 billion in 2018, according to data released by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).
The north African nation’s exports to the US represent 7.2% of the country’s total exports last year, the CAPMAS said in a statement on Monday.
Exports of ready-made garments topped the list with a share of 43.1% or $945.7 million in 2019, up by 18% from $801.2 million a year earlier.
On the other hand, the US exports to Egypt fell to $5.14 billion last year, down from $5.46 billion in 2018, making up 6.6% of Egypt’s total imports.
Egypt's top imports from the US included oil seeds, grains, medicinal herbs, and animal fodder which reached $1.15 billion in 2019, compared to $1.21 billion in 2018.
