Peru's garlic campaign, which started this month and will last until April 2021, is already showing positive results. In the first fortnight of October, the country exported a total of 874 tons, i.e. 86% more than in the same period of 2019. This growth was mainly driven by shipments to Mexico (the second most important destination in 2019, with a 32% share), where the country exported 853 tons. Mexico increased its demand in the last month and its imports grew by 15%. Mexico is a producer and exporter of garlic. Their campaign runs from April to September, complementary to the Peruvian production. This year, Peru has great growth opportunities in the United States (the country's third most important destination in 2019, with a 9% share). In the first two weeks of the campaign, Peru exported 21 tons of garlic to the US. The US demand for garlic has grown in 2020. Between January and August, the country's garlic imports increased by 11% in volume and 42% in value.
