According to figures published recently by the Inter-professional Fruit Grouping, fruit exports dropped 41% in volume and 27% in value (from January till August 18) as compared to the same period last year
All in all, these exports generated revenues of 50.6 billion dinars (€4.66 bln) by August 18, against an approximate 70 bln dinars (€6.44 bln) in August 2019.
Exported volumes went down to 17,700 tonnes (30,300 tonnes in August 2019). Watermelons make up one third of exports (about 6,000 tonnes) and were mainly meant for Italy (3,600 tonnes), France (about 100 tonnes) and Libya (775 tonnes). In addition, 5,656 tonnes of peaches were exported (80% to the Libyan market) along with about 2,000 tonnes of apricot, 1,000 tonnes of plums and 960 tonnes of almonds.
