Value of Tunisian fruit exports up nearly 50 percent

Fruit exports from Tunisia saw an increase in value by nearly 50% to 73.1 million dinars until August 4, 2021, from 49 million dinars. Quantities exported grew 75% to 30,617 tons from 17,535 tons. Tunisia aims to export 80,000 tons of fruits throughout the year. Watermelon output accounted for about 41% of the overall summer crop exported, followed by stone fruits at 53.4%. Libya is the first destination, attracting over 77% of the total exports. The quantities exported to this market reached 23,635 tons until August 4, 2021, against 9,731 tons during the same period of the previous year, up 143%.

 

Regarding the European markets, the quantities of fruit exported to Italy amounted to 3,686 tons, accounting for 12% of the total exports against 4,034 tons in 2020 during the same period.
