Israel's Ministry of Energy announced Wednesday that it has approved the exports of natural gas to Egypt via Jordan. This is a second gas export route from Israel to Egypt following the growing demand for natural gas in Egypt, which will increase Israel's gas exports to Egypt by more than 50 percent, the ministry noted.
The gas will be transported through the Israeli pipeline to the connection point with the Jordanian gas transmission system near the northeastern Israeli city of Beit She'an, then to the southernmost Jordanian city of Aqaba, and eventually to Egypt. Israeli gas export through the new route is expected to reach 2.5 to 3 billion cubic meters (bcm) in 2022, and may increase to 4 bcm in subsequent years, the ministry estimated. The export of natural gas from Israel to Egypt began in 2020.
