Turkish exports to UAE jump as relations thaw

Turkey

Turkey’s exports to the United Arab Emirates grew by 52.4 percent in February from the previous month and by 29.1 percent from a year earlier, the state-run Anadolu news agency reported on Tuesday. Exports totalled $303.2 million last month, Anadolu said, citing data provided by the Turkish Exporters’ Assembly (TIM).

Turkey and the UAE are seeking to repair their relations, damaged by Ankara’s support for political Islamic groups in the region and the conflict in Libya, where the two countries have backed opposing sides. Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan visited Turkey in November to sign a series of agreements in the economy and trade. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan visited Abu Dhabi and Dubai in the middle of last month, when 13 further deals were signed.
