In 2021, Spanish fruit and vegetable exports amounted to 15,600 million euro, i.e. 7.5% more than in the previous year and 50% more than in 2014, according to data from Informa's DBK Sector Observatory. Vegetable exports grew by 9.2% and totaled 6,465 million euro. Fruits exports increased by 6.3% but their value stood at 9,134 million euro. The European Union is the main destination for Spanish exports, accounting for 81% of all fruit exports and 78% of vegetable exports. Germany, France, and the United Kingdom are the main destinations.

Meanwhile, the value of fruit and vegetable imports increased by 6.8% to 3,123 million euro. Morocco concentrated 19% of the total value of the fruit imported by Spain and 47% of vegetable imports. According to the analysis, the sector is made up of a large number of small and medium producers, although there is a growing trend towards integration and association in producer and marketer organizations. There is a greater degree of concentration in the field of specialized wholesale marketing: the combined turnover of the twenty main operators stood at nearly 5,700 million euro in 2020, while the first thirty have already achieved a turnover of about 7,200 million euro.
