Morocco’s Industrial Exports Generate $12 Billion in 7 Years

Philippines

Minister of Industry Ryad Mezzour has said that Morocco’s Industrial Acceleration Plan has enabled the sector to generate over MAD 122 billion, or $12 billion, in terms of exports between 2014 and 2021. Mezzour made his remarks on Thursday in Casablanca during a conference by the Association for the Progress of Leaders (APD). In his statement to attendees, Mezzour said that Morocco’s Industrial Plan made it possible for the sector in Morocco to exceed its 2020 employment objective. The industrial plan had aimed to help create 23,0000 jobs by 2020. Citing achievements in the industry sector, Mezzour said Morocco “undoubtedly has one of the most attractive industrial platforms in the world,” stressing the importance of the royal vision as well as the country’s stability and human resources. Mezzour highlighted Morocco’s approaches to revive and boost the sector, including the Emergency Plan 2005-2009, National Pact for Industrial Emergence 2009-2014, Industrial Acceleration Plan 2014-2020 as well as the Industrial Recovery Plan 2021-2021. He considered that all of the strategies “made it possible to position the kingdom as a competitive hub on a regional scale.” The acceleration plan aims to promote investment in the sector, improve sectoral logistical competitiveness, as well as boost human resources.

Morocco’s industrial sector has been attracting dozens of international investors who chose to either open new plants in Morocco or expand their business in the North African country. Earlier this month, Adient Automotive Seating announced the opening of a new factory in Kenitra’s Industrial Acceleration Zone near Rabat. The $7.13 million factory employs 600 people. The factory wants to increase its workforce to over 1,300 by 2025. Plastics manufacturing giant Erum also recently completed the expansion of its Tangier plant on May 11. The facility specializes in making plastic products for the clothing sector.
