Morocco, Tajikistan Agree on Diplomatic, Trade Cooperation

Morocco

Morocco and Tajikistan are keen to expand economic and diplomatic cooperation, emblemized in the signing of a visa waiver agreement for officials of both countries on September 22 in New York. The agreement was signed by Morocco Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and his Tajikistani counterpart Sirojiddin Muhriddin following their talks on the sidelines of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 77). In a statement to the press, Muhriddin welcomed the signing of this agreement, stating that he considers it opens a “new page in relations between two sister countries.” He expressed the wish to strengthen the legal framework of Morocco-Tajikistan relations to take advantage of opportunities for cooperation that exist between the two countries, particularly in the domains of economics and tourism. The meeting between the two diplomats was also attended by Morocco’s Permanent Ambassador and Representative at the UN Omar Hilale.

The UNGA 77 began on September 13, with the high-level session lasting from September 20 through September 26. The gathering centered on shared global challenges such as COVID-19, climate change, and migration, as well as the need for solutions that promote global sustainability and resilience. During this occasion, Bourida held a series of meetings with many of his foreign counterparts to discuss shared concerns and ways to expand their bilateral relations. These meetings included representatives of the Netherlands, Slovenia, Luxembourg, Finland, Belgium, Cyprus, Hungary, Czech Republic, Portugal, Antigua and Barbuda, and Argentina.
