Bangladesh exported $190.36M worth of furniture globally

Bangladeshi furniture manufacturers said they exported furniture worth $190.36 million in the last fiscal year (2021-2022), recording a growth of 38.87% over the prior fiscal year. They also said that currently, Bangladesh exports furniture to India, Nepal, the USA, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Europe. Furniture producers have asked the government for adequate support in order to further penetrate the $700 billion global furniture industry. On October 10, Salim H Rahman, the head of the Bangladesh Furniture Industry Owners Association, made this statement during the closing ceremony of the 17th National Furniture Fair 2022 at the capital's International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB). He also said that the furniture manufacturers of Bangladesh can meet at least 95% of the national demands with their produced furniture. “Moreover, the domestic market of furniture is also significant in Bangladesh, worth about Tk30,000 crores,” he added. Manufacturers and participants alike stated that their goal was to promote the furniture industry by showcasing new goods with unique designs, and they were successful in doing so. After a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, the largest event in the domestic furniture business, the 17th National Furniture Fair, began on October 6 at the ICCB. However, in the five-day fair, there were a total of 182 stalls of 34 companies like Hatil, Akhtar, Navana, Pertex, Regal, Nadia, Brothers and many more. Organizers also said that they were unable to arrange the fair in the last two years due to the pandemic.

 

However, after overcoming the pandemic, the fair has managed to attract enough visitors and created a satisfactory situation both for the visitors and participants. According to the fair authority, the three best stalls in the “stall beautification” category were given special awards Moreover, from this, each participating organization was awarded an honorary crest and certificate at the fair. At the fair, manufacturers tried to woo their customers with free home deliveries and discounts in the range of 10%-25%. In addition, prizes for the “Chhabir Moto Ghar”—the top children's drawing competition organized on the first day of the fair and the authority handed over the prize of the competition during the closing ceremony. The first winner was awarded a cupboard, while the second and the third were awarded a bed and a bedside chest drawer, respectively, and all the participants in this competition have been awarded in various ways. In the closing ceremony, KM Aktaruzzaman, president of the Bangladesh Furniture Exporters Association and director of FBCCI, was also present.
