Morocco foresees a significant increase in fruit production in the 2020-2021 season, despite the difficult weather conditions marked by the long drought experienced throughout 2020. According to estimates by the Ministry of Agriculture, citrus production will increase by 29% over the previous season.
This strong increase is partly due to the planting of new orange, lemon, or mandarin crops within the Green Morocco Plan, which has boosted the country's agricultural production in general in the last decade.
In addition to citrus fruits, one of the star products of Moroccan agricultural exports, dates will experience a 4% increase, breaking a new record this year, and pomegranate production will increase by 2%. By contrast, apples, which are concentrated in the Middle Atlas region, will suffer a 14% drop due to the hail storms this year.
