The UAE maintained its leading position in terms of liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports with a total of 1.4 million tonnes in the second quarter (Q2) of 2020, up by 7.6% year-on-year (YoY), Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported on Thursday, citing a report by the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC). The GCC nation has played a key role in the global gas market, especially after the recently-announced major discoveries.
LNG exports of the UAE accounted for 1.6% of total global LNG exports in the April-June period and 5.5% of total Arab LNG exports, data showed. During the first half (H1) of 2020, LNG trade grew by 6% YoY despite the economic slowdown caused by the coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis.
