Egypt’s green exports stood at $11.2 billion (EGP 175.72 billion) in value during the 2015-2019 period, the planning minister Hala el Said announced. The country registered a growth rate of 62% in green exports between 2018 and 2019, while green imports declined by 18% over the same period, El Said noted. Green products represented 13.3% of Egypt’s total exports in 2019, while environment-friendly imports accounted for 16%, according to the statement.
She added that the nation’s trade deficit of green products shrank to $8.51 billion (EGP 133.52 billion) in 2019, compared with $13.6 billion (EGP 213.37 billion) in 2015. The coverage of exports and imports rose to 32.4% in 2019 from 11% in 2015. Green products are sustainable goods that aim to protect the environment and the climate. The Arab republic has eligible green projects of $1.9 billion (EGP 29.81 billion) in different sectors, as revealed last September.
