Peruvian banana exports contract

Peru

Peruvian banana exports in the first ten months of the year registered a slight contraction. Between January and October, the country exported a total of 172,593,871 kilos of bananas for 121,745,145 dollars. This is a 7.56% and 5.5% decrease in volume and value, respectively, over the same period in 2019, according to data from Agrodata Peru. The main markets for Peruvian bananas in the analyzed period were the Netherlands with $ 36,211,082 (i.e. 30% of the total), the United States with $ 23,260,459 (19%), Panama with $ 19,658,881 (16 %), and Belgium with 14,965,462 dollars (12% of the total). Together these four destinations accounted for 57% of the total.

 

Other markets were South Korea with $ 7,044,575 (6% of the total), Germany with $ 5,497,536 (5% of the total), Finland with $ 4,024,384 (3% of the total), Italy with $ 3,655,237 (3% of the total), Japan with 3,554,508 dollars (3% of the total) and the United Kingdom with 2,511,408 dollars (2%). Some of the most outstanding banana exporting companies in Peru between January and October were Agronegocios Los Angeles with 12,419,000 dollars (10.2% of the total), Cooperativa Agraria Appbosa with 8,997,000 dollars (7.4% of the total), Pronatur with 7,814,000 dollars (6.4% of the total), the Association of Small Organic Producers of Querecotillo with 6,059,000 dollars, Bananica with 5,868,000 dollars, Cooperativa Agraria Apbosmam with 5,707,000 dollars, Andean Natural Products Export Import with $ 5,513,000, and Capebosan-Jibito with $ 4,695,000.
