Peruvian table grape exports had a good start to the season, as the value of shipments in October increased by 10.96% over the same month of 2019, totaling $ 80,152,000, according to data provided by the Association of Exporters (ADEX). Shipments between January and October amounted to 546,158,000 dollars, i.e. 23% higher than in the same period of 2019. In this period, exports from Ica, the main producing and exporting region of Peru, amounted to 324,064,000 dollars and showed a 17.9% increase. Despite this region's positive performance, the business union warned about the probable impact that the agricultural workers' strike and roadblocks in December would have on the region's grape and other agro-industrial sectors, such as asparagus or avocados. "Each day of protest prevented the exit of nearly 200 containers of agricultural products, representing a loss of about 10 million dollars a day. Each container that can't be moved has an average value of about $ 50,000," the union stated. Other grape-producing regions (from January to October) were Piura (128,796,000 dollars), which increased its shipments by 16.6%; Lambayeque ($ 24,077,000), which fell by 2.4%; and La Libertad ($ 17,051,000), which had a 16.3% drop.
Peruvian table grapes reached 48 destinations between January and October 2020. The United States was the main destination with a 44.34% share of exports, which totaled $242,191,000 and a 40.93% increase. It was followed by the Netherlands with a 12.51% share, exports for $ 68,300,000, and a 14.53% growth. Hong Kong ($ 66,688,000), Mexico ($ 26,653,000), and China ($ 25,766) also stood out. The top ten destinations were completed by the United Kingdom, Spain, Colombia, South Korea, and Canada. ADEX highlighted the importance of working with the National Agrarian Health Service (Senasa) to open more markets for this fruit in order to promote its internationalization. The most exported variety is the Red Globe; however, other varieties, such as the Sweet Globe, Sugraone, Crimson, Thompson, Sweet Celebration, Jack Salute, Flame Seedless, and Sweet Sapphire varieties, among others, have also been positioned.
