According to data from the Center for International Cooperation in Agronomic Research for Development (Cirad) of France, and taking into account exports in the first weeks of the year, Colombia is currently Europe's main supplier of Hass avocado, surpassing other exporters of this fruit such as Israel, Spain, Chile, and Mexico. "At the moment, Colombia is the biggest supplier of Hass avocado to Europe with a 30% share," said Jorge Enrique Restrepo, the director of the Corporation of Producers and Exporters of Hass Avocado of Colombia (Corpohass).
“The total supply has decreased, favoring the increase in prices due to various factors. Mexico has reduced its shipments to focus on the US market prior to the Super Bowl and Chile has exported 75% less volume than in 2020. In addition, Israel and Spain have supplied the market to a lesser extent.”
