Spanish cucumber exports in 2020 achieved a record value

According to the data prepared by Hortoinfo from the Estacom statistical service (Icex-Tax Agency) Spanish cucumber exports in 2020 achieved a record value of 644.13 million euro. This value was 6.24% higher than in the previous year and 63.24% higher than the value achieved ten years ago. In 2020, the country exported 703.03 million kilos of cucumbers, a quantity slightly lower than the 708.24 million kilos exported in the previous year, but 29.16% higher than the quantity exported a decade ago. Last year, Spain exported its cucumbers at an average price of €0.916/kg, i.e. 7% higher than in 2019.

 

Top destinations for Spanish cucumber
In 2020, Germany purchased 280.95 million kilos of Spanish cucumbers, a similar volume to that of 2019, for 265.11 million euro. In fact, 4 out of every 10 cucumbers that Spain exported in 2020 were destined for the German markets, with an average price of € 0.944/kg. The United Kingdom continued to be the second destination for the Spanish cucumber with 101.88 million kilos - a figure slightly higher than the 100.45 million kilos of cucumber that reached the British markets in 2019- worth 88.08 million euro and an average price of €0.864/kg. The Netherlands ranked third with 73.71 million kilos worth 65.3 million euro and an average price of € 0.886/kg. France ranked fourth with 56.39 million kilos of cucumber worth 51.54 million euro and an average price of € 0.914/kg. The Czech Republic ranked fifth as it purchased 36.13 million kilos for 27.9 million euro, at an average price of € 0.772/kg.
