Increase in exports of Tunisian citrus fruit

Since the beginning of the export season (October 1st, 2020), the exports of citrus fruit from Tunisia have increased by 57% to reach 15,246 tons, compared to 9,699 tons at the same time last year. The value of the citrus fruit exports has reached over 31 million dinars [11.35 million USD] (22.3 million dinars last year [8.16 million USD]), according to data from the Interprofessional Fruit Group (GIFruits). Maltese oranges represent 89% of total exports, 13,000 tons. 67% of the exports of Tunisian citrus fruits go to France.

 

42.6 tons of organic oranges were exported, including 32.3 tons of Maltese, 4.5 tons of Meskis and 4.9 tons of Thomsons. France comes in first place with 10,293 tons, Libya in second place with 4,756 tons, followed by Qatar (66.4 tons), Kuwait (64.7 tons) and finally Canada (23 tons).  The total production of oranges in Tunisia during the season has reached 440,000 tons.
