Peru’s non-traditional agro-export sector has shown strong signs of recovery, accounting for 17.6% of Peru’s total shipments overseas in the first two-month period of the year. According to the Peruvian Foreign Trade Society (Comex-Peru), non-traditional agro-exports totaled US$1.303 billion between January and February, an increase of 13.5% compared to the same period in 2020. Shipments of fresh grapes (US$509 million, up 27.1%), mangoes (US$166 million, up 3.5%), blueberries (US$45 million, up 25.6%), and avocados (US$39 million, up 76.2 %%) stood out.
Exports of onions and shallots also stood out, with sales growing by 94% to US$22 million in the same period. Shipments of products such as quinoa and fresh asparagus totaled US$14 million (-24.6%) and US$44 million (-16.9%), respectively. Andina.pe reports that, according to the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur), total exports amounted to US$7.388 billion in the first two-month period of 2021.
