China's exports rose in August from the same month a year ago, marking the 15th straight month of growth. Global demand for electronic devices has been strong as people have stayed home during the coronavirus pandemic. The Chinese customs authorities say exports stood at 294 billion dollars last month. That is up more than 25 percent from a year earlier. Shipments of personal computers and other electronics led the way.
Exports of clothes and toys also grew, as demand in the US and Europe bounced back. Imports totaled about 236 billion dollars for the month, a gain of 33 percent. This was attributed to higher prices of raw materials such as crude oil and metals. Overall trade totaled 530 billion dollars, up nearly 29 percent from a year ago.
