South Korea's exports of instant noodles soared to a fresh high last month on the back of global popularity. According to the Korea Customs Service on Monday, the country exported around 71.6 million dollars worth of ramyeon in March, up 20 percent from a year ago. It was the first time that monthly outbound shipments of the food item surpassed the 70 million dollar mark.
The export volume also rose to a record high of over 20-thousand tonnes, an increase of more than 17 percent on-year. The biggest buyer of the noodles was China, followed by the U.S. and Japan. Watchers assume the craze largely stems from South Korea's growing cultural influence, with the country's music and dramas gaining popularity across the world.
